Educating children in ballet gives the gifts of grace, discipline, and athleticism, and those gifts will remain with your young dancer throughout his or her lifetime. Saint Louis Ballet School believes in a performing arts education that is well rounded by including all dance forms as well as music education through private lessons in instruments such as the classical piano and violin. Applying student's classroom work to the stage is achieved through yearly dance and music recitals as well as opportunities to dance with St. Louis’ professional ballet company, Saint Louis Ballet, when children’s roles are available.

5. Harlequin Sprung Flooring 
Dance is a physical sport/art that requires constant jumping, leaping and fast movement. Studying dance on the wrong floor will result in joint pain and incorrect muscle development. Harlequin Flooring is the top choice in professional dance. St Louis Ballet School provides seamless, marley Harlequin Sprung Floors in all of our studios.

Overview of Dance Program:


The Ballet department begins with the littlest ballerinas in PreBallet. There are 3 levels of PreBallet all based on age. At age 6 students are placed in Ballet 1 and look forward to a total of 8 levels throughout their training and studies here at Saint Louis Ballet School. Graduation to levels is not annual and is based on skills achieved, understanding of technique and ability guided by a school syllabus.


The Tap department begins with an introduction to tap in our combined PreBallet and PreTap classes which assists in children’s learning of rhythm and counting. Tap is then offered independently of ballet beginning at age 6. Jazz also begins to be studied at age 6 and both Tap and Jazz continue studies across 4 levels each.

Although ballet is the foundation of SLBS, we are proud of our extensive jazz and tap program which is led by faculty leaders in these fields of dance.


Our Adult Program offers beginner and intermediate ballet classes as well as beginner and int/adv tap classes. Adults can pay per class, buy a class card or sign up as a member and pay monthly for unlimited adult classes. Visit the tuition page for rates.
